Job Purpose

Supports the overall operation of a residential hall/area housing 200-375 residents, with a staff of 5-12 Resident Assistants and 5-20 student desk workers. Provides support and direction for the development of a positive community, which includes working with faculty heads, village and hall councils. Provides leadership in the enforcement of hall policies.

Essential Functions

Works with student staff and students in the development of positive communities. Works with student staff and student leaders to provide activities and educational programs. Enforces campus policies. Advises hall/village councils and works with faculty heads. Provides student support for issues that arise throughout the year, e.g., roommate and student conflicts, personal support, behavior issues, etc. Provides administrative support, which includes: building maintenance reporting and follow-up, room safety/security checks, maintaining office hours, maintaining room inventories, completing room changes, key control/inventories and building security. Provides student staff support, which includes: selection, training and supervision of Resident Assistants and Desk Workers. Responds to emergencies which occur after hours; both student and building issues. Be available/on duty, on campus, for your area after hours, responding to necessary issues and emergencies (about one night a week and one weekend per month). Responsible for leadership on one of the following (or similar) department tasks: marketing and assessment, Residence Hall Association, Tech Wars, intramurals, educational programming, community service projects, or managing the department programming resource office.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. One year of leadership experience as a Resident Assistant, Senior RA, Residence Hall Association President, or related position within higher education. Ability to communicate and work well with others. Basic understanding of student development.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of housing experience (Resident Assistant, Senior RA). Additional leadership experience; e.g., Residence Hall Association/SGA President, Study Abroad, Eagle Scout, etc. Experience supervising student staff.

Work Hours

Full-time, 10-month (August-May), live-in position. Office hours: Monday-Friday, plus evening responsibilities/student meetings. Evening and weekend duty hours include approximately every fourth night and every fourth weekend. Some summer work may be available.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Commensurate with education and experience; Administrative Pay Grade AD40. In addition to salary, an apartment including utilities, cable, internet, and local telephone is provided. Start date will be January 2, 2018. Anticipated vacancies.
Benefits Information

Benefits include the accumulation of two vacation days per month and one sick leave day per month, and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits.
