Job Purpose

Teaching and administrative responsibilities in all aspects of the university band program.

Essential Functions

Work in close collaboration with the Associate Director of Bands to provide leadership for a large and diverse university band program. Conduct Tennessee Tech’s premier ensemble, the TTU Symphony Band. Direct the Golden Eagle Marching Band and supervise all operations of the athletic bands. Teach undergraduate conducting in the fall and spring semesters. Coordinate TTU’s annual clinic band event (Festival of Winds and Percussion), which is in its 53rd year and a major recruiting event. Coordinate the budget for the Symphony Band, Marching Band, and Festival of Winds and Percussion. Help to coordinate recruiting activities in collaboration with the wind and percussion faculty. Build and maintain strong relationships with music educators in the state. Participate in regional and national music education and band organizations. Other duties as assigned based on the needs of the School of Music and the qualifications of the candidate.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned Doctorate in Music (ABD considered) from an accredited institution. Evidence of prominent accomplishments or potential as a teacher and conductor.

Preferred Qualifications

Collegiate teaching experience and participation in State, Regional, and National music education and/or band organizations.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Commensurate with education and experience. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2018.
Benefits Information

Benefits include the accumulation of one (1) sick leave day per month and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits. Deferred income and benefits over 12 months.
