Job Purpose

Reporting to the Executive Director for Student Success, the director will develop and implement a campus-wide comprehensive advising and retention program, including advisor training and assessment. The director will work collaboratively with all academic units on issues of student success including (but not limited to): freshman orientation, transfer orientation, course registration and graduation, as well as learning support and other interventions with at-risk students and other special populations.

Essential Functions

Coordinate and supervise a campus-wide network of professional academic advisors at the unit level. Oversee the implementation and utilization of technology systems for student support such as: Banner, DegreeWorks, and the Student Success Collaborative from Education Advisory Board. Organize and implement a comprehensive orientation and training program for professional and faculty advisors from all academic units. Create and maintain infrastructure to disseminate information on policies and procedures including Advising Manual and Academic Advising website. Conduct ongoing assessment of advising practices to evaluate effectiveness and impact on student retention and graduation. Establish, promote and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and staff on issues impacting student orientation; registration, retention and graduation. Identify best practices in student advisement and retention through involvement in professional associations such as NACADA and NASPA. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field. Four years of professional work experience in higher education within a leadership role in advisement, enrollment management, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field. Five years of professional work experience in higher education within a leadership role in advisement, enrollment management, or related field. Experience with Banner and DegreeWorks.

Work Hours

Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Additional hours if/when needed.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Commensurate with education and experience; Administrative Pay Grade AD47. Anticipated Vacancy.
Benefits Information

Benefits include the accumulation of two vacation days per month and one sick leave day per month, and thirteen University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits.
